Update Sept. 23: Dolly was adopted Tuesday morning by a Poway man.
The dog seen on a surveillance video being thrown over a fence in Ramona and abandoned will be available for adoption starting Tuesday.
The video shows the young pit bull being tossed over a gate to a commercial building Aug. 28. The dog was discovered the next day and turned over to County Animal Services in Carlsbad.
The incident is now under investigation and County Animal Services is asking for help identifying the man shown in the video. Anyone with information is asked to contact Animal Services at (760) 966-3224 or San Diego County Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
“The fact that someone would take such a sweet dog and abandon it by throwing it over a fence is unconscionable,” said County Animal Services Deputy Director Dan DeSousa. “The Department of Animal Services would like to speak to the man in this video to ask him why he did such an act.”
If the department can identify the suspect in this case, he may face misdemeanor charges of animal abandonment and/or animal cruelty.
The veterinary staff examined the 6-month-old puppy and didn’t find any injuries. The dog was held for the required number of days to allow the owner a chance to come forward. When no one claimed her, the dog became available for adoption.
The black and white dog has been named “Dolly” and Animal Services says she weighs about 28 pounds, is eating well and likes plenty of attention. She’s been spayed and will be available for adoption at the animal services shelter in Carlsbad when it reopens Tuesday.
