Head South for Waterfront Park Fountain Fun

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Like birds migrating south for the winter, visitors who want to enjoy the fountains at the Waterfront Park will also need to head south for a little while.

Starting Monday, the basins on the north side will be closed for about three weeks so work can be done to reduce mud puddles and wet areas adjacent to the fountain heads/nozzles.

The fountain splash zone will be extended to catch overspray and additional water drains will be installed. The decomposed granite bordering the east side of the basins will be treated so that it’s more firmly packed to reduce tracking and prevent mud puddles. Eventually, the same will be done throughout the park.

Once the north side is completed and re-opened, the same improvements will be made to the fountain area on the south side. That work is expected to begin at the end of October. None of the scheduled events at the park will be affected.

The Waterfront Park celebrated its grand opening last May and immediately began drawing big crowds. Now that most children are back at school, workers will begin making the enhancements.

Plans are also in the works to build a new restroom on the north side of the park. The building will be a mirror image of the one on the south side. Construction is scheduled to begin early next year.
