Increased DUI Patrols Over Holiday Weekend

Reading Time: < 1 minute

If you are caught driving drunk over the Fourth of July weekend, the celebration ends behind bars.

Sheriff’s deputies are increasing patrols and joining forces with other law enforcement to keep the streets safe over the Independence Day holiday weekend.

“I cannot stress this enough: don’t drink and drive this Fourth of July weekend,” said Sheriff Bill Gore.

People who make the decision to drive under the influence not only put their own lives at risk, but also the lives of others on the road, Gore added.

Deputies across the county will start increasing patrols on Thursday, July 3 and will continue them through Sunday, July 6.

Sheriff’s deputies are joining with San Diego Police Department for a DUI checkpoint from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. on Saturday, July 5 at an undisclosed location in the city of San Diego.

Deputies made 46 DUI arrests over the 2013 Fourth of July holiday weekend, and 26 DUI arrests in 2012 over the same period.

If you do drink, have a designated driver ready or call a cab.
