Grandparents may never know as much about technology and the Internet as their grandchildren, but more and more are willing to give gadgets a try and to have fun doing it. The “Get Connected! Internet Fair for 50+” – set for Saturday, Oct. 29 at the Lake San Marcos Resort Conference Center – can expand the Internet knowledge of all seniors.
“It’s so important for older adults to stay connected through technology,” said Bill Horn, Chairman, San Diego County Board of Supervisors. “It’s a great way to stay in touch with family and friends in addition to being a tool to stay on top of your health and wellness and can connect you with countless services and resources for everyday life.”
Some of the topics covered include broad, well-known subjects like Facebook, Skype and smart phones, web sites targeting older adults like Network of Care and AARP and general areas of interest like online safety, accessing mental health resources and choosing appropriate technology for you to use. Attendees will also be able to “Ask the Experts” one-on-one about a wide variety of topics.
“This event is a great opportunity for older adults to learn about new technologies that can help make their lives easier,” said Nick Macchione, County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) Director. “Keeping seniors healthy and safe is a part of the County’s Live Well, San Diego! 10-year health care initiative.
The Get Connected Fair is coordinated by the Technology and Aging Coalition of San Diego and sponsored by the San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency, San Diego Futures Foundation, AARP, and Aldea Communications.
The Get Connected! Internet Fair for 50+ will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29 at the Lake San Marcos Country Club, 1750 San Pablo Drive, Lake San Marcos 92078.
