Keeping Backcountry Residents Safe

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The newly remodeled San Diego Sheriff’s Department storefront in Dulzura is serving double duty to keep backcountry residents safe, housing both Sheriff and fire protection staff.

East County residents got their first look at the new post during an open house celebration on Saturday.

The storefront is located at 1135 Community Building Road. It also serves as the Dulzura-Barrett Station of the Rural Fire Protection District.

The Dulzura storefront will be an important resource for Sheriff’s deputies assigned to the Campo Substation, who serve an area of 350 square miles in the county’s unincorporated area, including the communities of Campo, Dulzura, Portrero and Tecate. The Dulzura office gives them a place to write reports and access the sheriff’s database when doing crime investigations, rather than having to drive back to the Campo substation. The additional office location will help improve response times.

The open house activities featured members of the sheriff’s Search and Rescue Mounted Unit, Senior Volunteer Patrol and K-9 Unit giving demonstrations and showcasing their efforts for area residents.

The Dulzura office is not staffed around the clock. In case of an emergency, always call 9-1-1. For non-emergencies call 858-565-5200.
