Live Well, San Diego! Summit Spotlights Health & Wellness for All Ages

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Today many households have started looking more and more like the Waltons TV show of the 1970s with generations of the same family living under one roof. Intergenerational living presents benefits for those involved, but also brings challenges.

The San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency Live Well, San Diego! Summit is an opportunity for San Diegans of all ages to learn about resources that will help them meet those challenges.

“Intergenerational living is reality for a many families,” said San Diego County Supervisor Dianne Jacob. “This summit will provide access to programs and resources that can help families cope with the stress of this type of living arrangement and help every member of the family be as healthy and fit as possible.”

The event, taking place at the Town and Country Convention Center Grand Exhibit Hall on June 15 will feature a keynote address by Academy Award-winning actor Richard Dreyfuss, exhibits, and other activities related to intergenerational programs.

Dreyfuss has starred in such films as “Mr. Holland’s Opus”, “The Goodbye Girl”, “Jaws” and “Close Encounters of the Third Kind”. Although he continues to act, he has become an activist for various causes and speaks around the country about the need for more civic involvement.

“We want as many County residents as possible to be able to access the information from this event,” said Supervisor Pam Slater-Price. “The morning program will be webcast to four different locations around the County and those sites will also have distinct, but related activities and resources in the afternoon unique to each location.

The event, also sponsored by AARP and Kaiser Permanente, is free and will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. (registration and exhibits begin at 8 a.m.) in the Grand Exhibit Hall of the Town & Country Convention Center, 500 Hotel Circle North, and at the satellite locations in El Cajon, Escondido, Carlsbad and Chula Vista. A free lunch is included.

“The Live Well, San Diego! Summit is great way for the community to learn more about how to build better health, which is a goal of the County’s 10-year initiative for a healthy, safe and thriving community.” said Nick Macchione, HHSA Director.

Registration required; call the AARP Registration Line at (877) 926-8300 or visit www.AISevents.orgfor more information.
