Nine Charged in Mission Bay Meth Ring

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Nine adults face felony drug charges after an undercover investigation revealed a methamphetamine ring using the Mission Bay Sports Center to distribute large quantities of drugs.

“The DA’s Narcotics Division worked closely with our law enforcement partners to identify and shut down this meth trafficking operation,” San Diego County District Attorney

Bonnie Dumanis said. “The defendants in this case brazenly centered their drug-dealing operation out of a popular Mission Bay business where kids attended summer camp.”

Operation Boone’s Farm was launched last November. During the course of the investigation, agents determined the sports center was being used as a drop location for drug deliveries and payments between suppliers and customers. Undercover officers purchased a half pound of methamphetamine during the operation, Dumanis said.

Business owner, Jason Boone, was allegedly a leader in the drug ring and was arrested and charged with 15 counts including transportation, sale, and possession for sale of methamphetamine. Investigators said Boone coordinated with multiple drug couriers to pick up supplies at his Mission Bay business.

During the bust, about five pounds of methamphetamine and $48,000 in cash and assets were seized in addition to a bullet proof vest, a loaded .22 handgun, heroin, marijuana, and prescription pills.

Nine defendants were charged; seven were arrested and are scheduled to be arraigned in San Diego Superior Court Friday afternoon at the downtown courthouse.  More are expected to be arraigned on Monday.

The defendants include Jason Boone, 40; Susie Macias, 39; Spencer Edmonds, 32; Vincent Garcia, 41; Jacqueline Miller, 32; Joe Bean, 52; Michael Gifford, 41; Janelle Shryock, 21; and Tamara Delar, 20.

Defendants face charges ranging from transportation of methamphetamine to possession of methamphetamine for sale. If convicted, their prison sentences range from 16 months to 10 years.

“DEA and its law enforcement partners are committed to ensuring the safety of San Diegans from drug traffickers,” said DEA San Diego Special Agent in Charge William R. Sherman, whose agency also participated in the investigation.  “The arrogance of running a drug trafficking operation where so many of our citizens send their children for summer camps and go themselves to enjoy the beauty of our city, makes the culmination of this investigation very rewarding. ”

The San Diego Police Department, San Diego Sherriff’s Department, Homeland Security and the Maritime Task Force also participated in the operation.

“This is another example of the positive relationship San Diego Law Enforcement has in working together to eradicate the blight of drug abuse in San Diego,” said San Diego Police Executive Assistant Chief David Ramirez.”
