What it’s called: Rose Under Fire

Who wrote it: Elizabeth Wein

Read it if you liked:Eleanor and Park

What it’s about: Rose Justice, a young American working in England as a transport pilot, is captured by the Nazis while flying over France. She is taken to Ravensbruck, a notorious women’s concentration camp, where medical experimentation has been performed on many of the Polish prisoners. Rose finds herself with the Polish “rabbits” and what transpires is a story of friendship, endurance and survival. Told through Rose’s journal entries and her poetry, she tells of daily life in the camp, the courageous women that she meets, and the will to live under horrific circumstances. Elizabeth Wein weaves a tale that will be remembered long after the book is closed.
