Reading Time: < 1 minute

If you have an unwanted gun, you can turn it in and get a gift card in return, no questions asked.

The Sheriff’s Department is participating with the United African American Ministerial Action Council in its annual Guns for Gift Cards program Friday, December 21. from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Tubman/Chavez Multicultural Center 415 Euclid Avenue, San Diego.

The Sheriff’s Department utilized $10,000 in asset forfeiture funds to purchase the gift cards. Since the collaboration started four years ago, 851 weapons and ammunition have been taken off the streets of San Diego County.

The guns have to work. $50 will be given for shotguns and rifles, $100 for hand guns and assault weapons. There is a limit of one gift card per vehicle. The gift cards can be redeemed at area grocery stores. Anyone participating should place the unloaded firearms in the trunk of their cars. A uniformed police officer will give instructions at the location. All weapons collected will be destroyed.
