County supervisors on Tuesday adopted the County’s budget for the 2013-14 fiscal year.

The budget calls for $4.98 billion in spending in the current fiscal year. Supervisors also approved $4.81 billion in planned spending in fiscal 2014-15.

County staff presented an initial recommended budget plan for both fiscal years in May. Supervisors held a public comment period from June 10-19, and then approved the budget June 25. The action taken Tuesday was legally required as part of the budget process.

The County’s wide ranging services affect residents in many ways, from providing public safety through the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, overseeing child support services, investigating suspicious deaths, operating parks and libraries, providing animal services and public health services, inspecting restaurants, monitoring beach water quality and overseeing disaster preparedness, among many other services.
