Hiking, Biking and Now, Parking!

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Hiking and biking are fun, finding a parking spot to get to those activities can be no fun at all.

Now the County of San Diego and Swiss Park in Chula Vista have found a solution and it offers a new gateway to Otay Valley Regional Park and the Bayshore Bikeway.

The Swiss Club operates Swiss Park, a popular site for weddings and other civic events. The Club agreed to provide land for parking and maintain it. In return, the County improved the parking lot at Swiss Park. For nature lovers, that means a much needed gathering place to meet, nine dedicated parking spots, one handicapped-parking spot and a bicycle rack. The parking is free and available from sunrise to sunset.

This past Saturday, Supervisor Greg Cox, San Diego Interim Mayor Todd Gloria and Swiss Club President Tony Odermatt celebrated the grand opening of the new amenity with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

“From this staging area, you can walk right onto the Swiss Trail, a quarter-mile trail that will connect you to the Otay Valley Regional Park system and its miles of multi-use trails,” said Supervisor Cox.

Otay Valley Regional Park features 8,500 acres of open space and is expected to one day span 13-miles from the coastal area to the Lower and Upper Otay Lakes. The Bayshore Bikeway is nearby and has been recognized as one of the best bike paths in the country.
