Best-selling authors, graphic novelists, local historians, audiobook performers and a renowned chef will appear at the Encinitas Library Saturday as part of the San Diego County Library’s third-annual Book Festival.

The full line-up, which also features musicians, a Johnny Cash tribute, and kids performers, will appeal to book-lovers, writers and families alike.

“The San Diego County Library Book Festival is one of our most popular events,” said Library Director Jose Aponte. “Our goal is to connect the community of San Diego with literature, culture, and a transformational learning experience.”

County residents who have never visited the Encinitas Library will discover a modern, spacious building with dramatic ocean views. The festival activities will span several “stages,” including the library’s community room, study rooms and parking lot.

The day kicks off at 9:30 a.m. with Bernard Guillas, chef at La Jolla’s famous Marine Room, signing his book Flying Pans, a cookbook peppered with the stories of the travels and characters that inspired the chef’s recipes.  At 10 a.m., Guillas will demonstrate his art, whipping up his Brown Butter Roasted Diver Scallops and Vanilla Kabocha Squash Tian. Audience members can taste his Hibiscus Infused Lemon Bar.

Other keynote speakers include Kim Barnouin, co-author of the controversial and best-selling Skinny B—ch lifestyle series; Lisa See, author of numerous bestsellers, including her most recent, Dreams of Joy; and Ellen Hopkins, bestselling author of seven young adult novels, including Triangle, Crank and Fallout.

Performers include veteran jazz guitarist Peter Sprague; comedy-juggler Michael Rayner and Michael J’s Tribute to Johnny Cash and June Carter.

The event runs from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Saturday at the Encinitas Branch of the San Diego County Library, 540 Cornish Drive.

Program times and complete descriptions are listed on the San Diego County Library’s website.
